Hair Transplant 101

The transplantation of hair began conceptually before World War II but the history of
contemporary surgery dates to the 1950’s with an American dermatologist.  Dr.Norman Orentreich, in attempting to determine whether transplanted hair would behave as it did at the site of extraction as opposed to the site of transplantation, confirmed the principal of donor dominance, and hair transplantation as we know it was born.

The initial plugs or dolls head techniques lasted with variations until the idea of follicular units appeared in the 1980’s.  F.U.T. has come to gain progressively wider acceptance in the transplant community and is in our opinion the gold card standard for both optimal result in density and natural appearance. Using this technique, a strip of hair barring skin is removed from the back of the scalp and then microscopically dissected into single follicular units which are then individually placed in tiny holes made in the scalp by injection needles immediately made prior to planting.
